Full-Day Chennai City Tour

The southern part of India is a land of temples and deep-rooted traditions. Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is a metropolitan city that is celebrated for its natural wonders, beautifully carved temples, tranquil beaches, islands, art, and tradition. Situated on the Coromandel coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai captures the essence of modern and classic elements. In this full-day Chennai city tour, we will take you to pilgrimage sites, beaches, beautiful Islands, museums, and art galleries.

  • Day 1 (28-11-2024)

Our chauffeur will pick you up from the City Center hotel at around 9:00 AM for the one-day Chennai trip. The tour will begin with a visit to St. George Fort— the first English fortress built by the Britishers in 1644. It is also known as White Town. The fort served as the center for trade and economic activities under the rule of the East India Company. Presently, St. George Fort is divided into structured sections—St.Mary’s Church, The Fort Museum, Clive House, Flag Post, and Wellesley House.

The Fort Museum features 3661 antiquities like daggers, rifles, cannon shots, helmets, swords, breastplates, coins, and letters. All these things are exhibited in ten galleries on three floors. Clive House located in the fort was once the residence of the British campaigner Robert Clive. The fort also consists of Wellesley House. Located on the first floor, the banquet hall showcases the paintings of the Governor of the Fort and a 14.5 ft. tall statue of Lord Cornwallis.

Next, we will visit St. Mary’s Church. Founded in the year 1680, St. Mary’s Church is the oldest building built by Britishers in India. It is also the oldest Anglican church established in the year 1680. You will also see the Flag Post, a 150 m tall flagstaff made up of teak wood.

For the next part of the Chennai tour package, we will take you to the Santhome Church. The church is also named the Santhome Cathedral Basilica. It was built by Britishers in a Neo-gothic style of architecture in the year 1893.

The next destination on our tour is Kapaleeshwar Temple. Reflecting the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The gopuram of the temple is 37 meters tall and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures.

After this, we will head towards the Government Museum and Art Gallery. The museum portrays a rich collection of artifacts, Roman antiquities, palm-leaf manuscripts, paintings, handicrafts, and other precious things.

Later, in the evening, we will take you to Marina Beach. It is the second-largest beach in the world. The sunset view and the calmly flowing water of the beach bring you closer to nature.

With this, the Chennai city tour will end and our chauffeur will drop you back at the hotel.

    Note:

The order of monuments to be visited can be changed based on the hotel's location..
