6 Days South India UNESCO Heritage Temples Tour

Day: 1 Chennai—Kanchipuram—Mahabalipuram

Our chauffeur will pick you up from Chennai airport/railway station or hotel between 7:00 AM-1:00 PM and drive you towards Kanchipuram. The first temple on our Tamil Nadu heritage tour is Ekambareswarar Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features a hallway with a thousand pillars and inner walls adorned with the 1008 Shiva lingams. After this, our chauffeur will drive you to Mahabalipuram. After checking in at the hotel, we will take you on a journey to explore Mahabalipuram, a town dotted with many beautiful cave temples that are built with a single piece of rock. The temples of Mahabalipuram beautifully display a fusion of magnificent sculptures, paintings, and splendid architecture. After the visit, our chauffeur will drop you off at the hotel for a restful night. 

Day 2: Mahabalipuram—Tanjore 

The next morning, post breakfast and check-out from the Mahabalipuram hotel, our chauffeur will take you on a 5-hour long journey to Tanjore—the Rice Bowl Of India, and drop you off at the hotel. After checking in, we will take you to the Brihadeeswarar Temple—the most popular structure in the city. Tanjore was ruled by various dynasties such as the Nayaks, the Mahrattas, and the Cholas which hold a prominent place in the city’s architecture. After your Tanjore excursion, our chauffeur will drop you off at the hotel for the overnight stay.

Day 3: Tanjore—Madurai 

The next morning after breakfast and check out from the hotel, our chauffeur will drive you to Madurai from Tanjore. The journey will take a total of 3 hours. After you have checked in at the hotel, our chauffeur will take you on a temple tour in Madurai. Gargantuan Meenakshi-Sundareshvara temple, dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, is the first temple that we will visit as per our itinerary. The temple boasts a unique architecture that consists of four gigantic pyramidal gates (gopuras) in all four directions. These gates are adorned with thousands of God figures, animals, and bright hues. We will also take you to Thirumalai Nayak’s palace and Gandhi Museum as included in our Tamil Nadu temple tour package. Our chauffeur will drop you off at the hotel for a comfortable night’s stay.

Day 4: Madurai—Rameshwaram—Madurai 

The next morning, after breakfast we will take you on a day tour to Rameswaram. The journey from Madurai to Rameswaram will be around 3 hours and 15 minutes long. At Rameswaram, we will visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the holiest Jyotirlinga temples. 64 holy water bodies are located around the temple along with Lord Rama’s feet imprint. Later in the evening, our chauffeur will drop you off at the hotel in Madurai for a good night’s sleep. 

Day 5: Madurai—Kanyakumari 

On the fifth day of our tour, we will explore Kanyakumari, a coastal town situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu. The city is the southernmost point of India uniting the three oceans—the Bay Of Bengal, the Laccadive Sea, and the Indian Ocean. The beauty of Kanyakumari is manifested in its coconut trees, ocean bodies, beautiful temples, and natural beauty. Upon arrival, you will check in at the hotel and then join us on our visit to the Kanyakumari Temple dedicated to Kanyakumari, the virgin goddess. Other places to visit in Kanyakumari are Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Suchindram Padmanabhapuram Palace, and Thiruvalluvar Statue. In the evening, we will take you to witness the beautiful sunset view. Our chauffeur will drop you off at the hotel for a relaxing night’s stay.

Day 06: Kanyakumari—Trivandrum 

After you have explored all the prominent heritage temples in Tamilnadu, on day 6, we will take you to witness the sunrise at Kanyakumari. After returning to the hotel and having your breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and our chauffeur will drop you at the Trivandrum airport. This will mark the end of your tour.
